Steve's Sticky Five Layer Pork

Sticky, sweet and salty, this Asian pork is delicious, serve with your choice of veg and rice. Don't skimp on ingredients, both types of soy and good Chinese wine are essential.


Blanch pork in boiling water for 1 minute. Drain.

Add sugar and oil stir fry pork until browned.

Add rest of ingredients and simmer uncovered for 1 hour.

Can add 1 chopped bok choy in the last 5 mins

Serve with rice (Remove Star Anise!)


  • 500g Pork Belly cubed

  • 2 or 3 stalks of Spring onion chopped to 3cm or so.

  • 1 TBS Ginger

  • 2 Star Anise

  • 1 Bay Leaf

  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon

  • ¼ cup Chinese Wine

  • 2 TBS Dark Soy

  • 2 TBS light Soy

  • 50g Palm or Rock sugar

  • 2 cups water

  • ¼ cup Chinese dark vinegar
